Titan Netters Sweep Indians
by Jim Jeffries
LEWISVILLE – The Tri High tennis team got off to a slow start to the season by losing their first four contests. However, the Titans came into Tuesday’s match again Union City with back-to-back wins over Hagerstown and Waldron. Tri, with all seven varsity players being seniors, whitewashed the Indians 5-0 to claim the Tri-Eastern Conference match.
Dillon Stevens quickly got Tri their first point of the night by winning 6-0, 6-0 over Tanner Spence at #2 singles. The #1 doubles duo of Jarod Stevens and Isaiah Steele defeated Bryten Stewart and Daniel Eley 6-1, 6-0.
Tri’s victory was sealed when the #2 doubles pairing of Dylan Mofield and Peyton Robertson blanked Braydon Hoggatt 6-0, 6-0. Kyle Falck added another point for Tri by winning 6-0, 6-1 over John Carpenter at #1 singles.
The final Titan tally came from Adam Glaze at #3 singles. He won the first set 6-1 and was cruising in the second set with a score of 5-0. Then, while chasing down a ball, Adam went down with an ankle injury. He hobbled to finish the match and finally won 6-1, 6-1 over Cale Jefferis.
“I think the kids have played much smarter the last three matches,” said Titan coach, Duke Falck. “Improvement in each match is our goal.”
Tri is now 3-4 on the season and 2-2 in the Tri-Eastern Conference. They played Lincoln on Wednesday at home.
In junior varsity action, Tri won both matches over Will Botrin. Izik Stamper won 6-0, while Hunter Glandon won 6-5 (7-4).
