The Tri Lady Titan softball team won the first ever Henry county softball tourney by defeating Knightstown and Shenandoah respectively. Tri never trailed on the day and had solid pitching performances from Payton Moore along with some outstanding defensive plays. Payton has had great defensive support all year and she does a nice job of keeping batters off balance, said co-coach Duke Falck.
In the morning game against Knightstown, Tri jumped out to an early 5-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Tri lost the coin toss and Knightstown chose to be home team. Destiny Taylor earned a lead off walk to start the game and was followed by a bunt single by Payton Moore. After a fly out by Lauren Bouslog, Kirsten Falck singled to left field to drive in Taylor. Then Kierstyn Conyers stepped to the plate with two runners on and blasted a three run home run over the left field fence giving Tri a 4-0 lead. Kaley Harrison then reached on a dropped by a fly ball by the left fielder. Breanna Reece then singled to left to move Harrison to second base. Abi Busby followed that hit up with a single of her own to drive in Harrison to give Tri a 5-0 lead after the top half of the first. Knightstown answered with two runs of their own in the bottom of the frame. Vivian Goodpaster had a one out single and went to second on a pick off throw attempt to first. Sammy Eaks then hit a ball to short and the throw was errant allowing Goodpaster to score and Eaks went to second. Then Butler stepped to the plate and singled in Eaks. That ended the scoring in the first inning.
In the second inning Tri was able to put another run on the board when with one out the speedy Payton Moore got on base again with a bunt single. Lauren Bouslog then roped a line drive to right center field for a double scoring Moore all the way from first base. That ended the scoring until the top of the fourth when Tri struck for another run. Bailey Coffman started the inning by hitting a single and was sacrificed to second by Payton Moore after a pop out by Taylor. Then Lauren Bouslog drove her in with another double to center field scoring Coffman giving Tri a 6-2 lead. In the bottom of the 4th Knightstown’s Carlton hit a solo home run to pull the Panthers with in 3.
The Titans answered the Panthers in the top of the fifth with two more runs. Taylor Craft drew a lead off walk after coming into the game for Kaley Harrison due to an injury. Jessie Spong then pinch ran for Craft after craft walked. Breanna Reece sacrificed Spong to second to put her in scoring position. Then freshman catcher Abi Busby smacked a triple to right center field to score Spong. Bailey Coffman’s single to left to score Busby putting Tri up 9-2. Knightstown scored a run in the bottom of the 6th and Tri added another run in the top of the 7th to make the final score 10-5.
In the Championship game Tri again was the visiting team by losing the coin toss to the Raiders. Tri used two doubles to gain an early 1-0 lead. Destiny Taylor lead the game off with a double to right center field. The next two Titans were retired then Kirsten Falck drove a double into the left center field gap giving the Titans and early lead. Shenandoah tied the game in the bottom of the frame when Kelsi Lawyer hit a two out triple down the right field line. Sami Deley hit a single scoring Lawyer. That is the way the score stayed until the top of the 5th inning where the Titans broke the open with three runs.
In the top of the fifth Bailey Coffman let off with a bunt single that she had to dance around to avoid hitting the ball. Destiny Taylor then sacrifice bunted Coffman to second base. After a ground out to the pitcher, Kirsten Falck hit a single to score Coffman from second. Kierstyn Conyers singled to right and moved Falck to third. Kaley Harrison then doubled scoring Falck from third and giving Tri a 4-1 lead. Payton Moore and the Titan defense was able to hold the Raiders scoreless in the next two frames while extending their lead.
In the seventh added three more runs to put the game away. A Lauren Bouslog single and a Kirsten Falck double put runners at second and third. Kierstyn Conyers grounded out to short to give the Raiders one out. Kaley Harrison then singled in Bouslog and Falck was drove in by a Breanna Reece single. Harrison scored the Titans final run on a wild pitch by the Raiders. The Raiders scored another run on three consecutive singles by Conner, Williams, and Campbell. Tri is now 19-3 going into the sectional
